Popular in the US, where the organic food market has struggled to gain traction, regenerative farming is now gaining momentum in Europe too. A farmer-led lobby called the European Alliance for Regenerative Agriculture (EARA) has just launched its first major report and is stepping up its advocacy efforts in Brussels.

The term “regenerative” was first coined in the 1980s by the US-based Rodale Institute, an organisation that supports research on organic farming and refers to agricultural practices aimed at restoring soil health and boosting ecosystems.
