David Stainforth is professor of physics with a deep passion for modelling the dimensions of the climate crisis in a form that is useful for decision makers and the wider population. His book, Predicting Our Climate Future is due out soon.
For him, collaboration between multiple disciplines is absolutely essential, but currently inadequate. In particular, he describes the relationship between physics and economics as akin to the difference between English and Cantonese. The Mint talked to him about the challenges and how they might be addressed. His proposed solution, maybe surprising for a modeller, was to tell tales.
