Tom is a social anthropologist at the Centre for Development and the Environment, University of Oslo. He has been working and researching in Kiswahili-speaking East Africa for two decades and is interested in the connections between care, technology, poverty, and health. He is currently leading a new 4-year research project, funded by the Norwegian Research Council, that explores how Tanzanians are using digital technologies to create medical and healthcare innovations.
