Joan Carling

Joan is an indigenous activist from the Cordillera region, Philippines, with more than 20 years of working on indigenous peoples’ rights and issues from the grassroots to the international level.  She is passionate about and has been at the forefront of advocating for human rights, social justice, sustainable development, the environment, and climate justice. She was the General Secretary of the Asia Indigenous People Pact (AIPP) From 2008 to 2016.  Ms. Carling was awarded the Champions of the Earth- Lifetime Achievement Award by UN Environment 2018. She is also one of the laureates of the Right Livelihood Award 2024. She is currently the Executive Director of the Indigenous Peoples Rights International-IPRI.
