MPs have demanded the Universal Credit roll-out is frozen until the government addresses the poverty they say it has fueled. Currently, there are just under 64,000 households receiving Universal Credit in the West Midlands. All new claimants are now put onto the benefit, which is replacing six existing ‘legacy’ benefits including jobseekers allowance and housing benefit. But now, the government is set to further roll out the new benefits system to households already claiming the older benefits.
